Get ready for your English Matura with our Grammar Workshop!
How many times have you had to rely on guesswork in your English exam because of grammar rules you didn’t fully understand? Are you worried about your English Matura? Don’t worry, we get you – there seem to be so many rules: all the different tenses, gerunds, participles and so on. And don’t even get me started on conditionals, reported speech or the passive voice. Indeed, these grammar rules can be confusing even for native English speakers (if you don’t believe me, just try asking a regular English person what the rules for using the third conditional are).
Why learn grammar rules?
In short, the thing with grammar is that it affects all the other parts of your English skills. First of all, knowing grammar rules makes you a better English speaker – no longer will your low confidence prevent you from saying what you want. Furthermore, doing Language in Use type of exercises is much easier when you learn the rules (believe it or not, it’s not all guessing!). Finally, having a better grasp of the rules helps your express yourself better in writing:
- You can keep your sentences from all sounding the same.
- You can emphasise the most important ideas more easily.
- You can communicate the “tone” that you want, and avoid miscommunication.
